Earlier this year I ranked the 20 best players in the NBA. I probably made some errors in the fact that I overvalued Carlos Boozer (probably more deserving of somewhere between 9-12), and some of the ommissions were very difficult. However, to the point I want to make, I took Kobe #1. That all changed now in the Eastern Finals. Don't get me wrong, I probably will still take Kobe #1, but not nearly as definitely as I did before. Lebron stole a game with 25 straight points, and as I watched it, there was without a doubt the best performance I witnessed in my lifetime. I mean, every time he turned Detroit would send a late double team and he could get an amazing dunk, or a sick fade away. I mean, physically, he is the best player. He can get to the basket and put it away, post up, and get his shot, and he can definitely shoot. So which one is better to start with? Lebron is a better defender than Kobe, and is much more positive in media attention. Lebron is physically more of a force. However, Kobe can steal a game just by shooting. I mean, if Kobe is up to 30 points, and shoots a three you know its in. Lebron on the other hand, you are never sure. Also, the thing about Lebron is when teams like Detroit triple team him, he dishes it for amazingly easy baskets (no offence Gibson, but my dad could've hit half those shots with the "D" Detroit put on the rest of you). I am not sold on either supporting cast, but I feel Kobe may force too much, although he may have to. Also rebounding, gotta take Lebron, cause he can get to the boards. Now, with all this said. Who do you take #1. In my mind, it just doesn't matter, cause either way you are getting a dominant player, so why worry. I would probably take Lebron, but I am sure others would take Kobe. So just enjoy this fun debate, cause one superstar in the NBA is nice, but two is better.
Also, a quick thing here. I am picking Cleveland to win in 7. Why? Because no one else is. Its like that Bears-Saints game this year. All week I was talking about how the Saints would crush them, but then every single analyst on ESPN also picked the Saints, and then I knew. It just sounded too good to be true. So I sucked down my pride, picked the Bears and won that game. I feel the same thing about the Cavs, and the East in general. They are kicking the conference when it's down, but they forget we heard the same things about the Heat last year, and the Mavs folded. Are the Spurs as likely to fold, dear lord no, but does it matter. I have confidence that Lebron will continue to dominate Bowen. And if I am wrong, there is nothing I can lose.
Last point, that has nothing to do with the NBA... ESPN has been picking the best player at every position. And the funniest one was best RB. Needless to say they all picked LT, including one guy who said "I was trying to find a way to reason any other player is better. But you can't" and he's right. I want to pick another running back as better, like Gore for example, but you just can't. Its not even close. So here's the hat to you LT, you made it so that not even I can doubt you, and I always doubt anyone who isn't a Colt. Enjoy.
